The Golfer’s Alphabet

Posted in Golf Humour  by Putters 101

I recently found this unique and funny bit of golf humour written some time ago. In fact, it’s from a time before many of us were born - 1898! Even though it’s ancient by the standards of today, and some of the words are a bit odd, it still has relevance to today’s modern golf game. I hope you enjoy the series, there are 26 “funnies”, one for each letter of the alphabet, which I will post as time permits. =)

Golf the Two-Step Way – A Balance Drill for the Beginner

Posted in Golf Tips  by Putters 101
July 1st, 2008

One of the most common problems a new golfer has, is how to weight-shift from their back foot to their front foot during the downswing.

To compound this issue, many beginning golfers are hesitant in their swing and wind up holding back somewhat, thereby scooping their shots and producing hardly any power in their swing.

A very simple drill to help beginning golfers perfect their weight-shifting ability is the sliding foot drill. Practicing this diligently will enable you to properly shift your weight to your front foot. Normally there are only two outcomes with this drill – you fall on your butt or you shift your weight correctly to your front foot.

1. Start by addressing the ball as you normally would, but before starting to swing slide your rear et up with your normal stance, but before taking your backswing, slide the back foot behind the front foot using your toe to keep your balance, (as much as possible =).

2. Once you’ve reached the top of your backswing, take your normal swing, (go through the ball). Your body will automatically transfer your weight to the front side, or you will stumble….
