Golf Tip – How To Improve Your Backswing

Posted in Golf Tips  by AMA Golfer

Every golfer should invest some time and effort into fine tuning their backswing. Although there are many golf tips that can help develop better aim and form, the best advice is to stick with the basics. This holds true for beginners and amateur alike.

Mustering as much power and accuracy as possible while maintaining form and balance is the goal for every golfer. To accomplish this, you must be able to give the ball everything you’ve got, but without what is commonly referred to as “coming over the top”.

That describes a swing flaw which causes the clubhead to veer off to the outside of your target line during the downswing. The result? A horrendous slice.

Come From The Inside

The best way to avoid such a shot is to learn how to avoid coming over the top, thus keeping your clubhead from moving outside of the target line. This can be accomplished by simply working on a technique which is opposite of coming over the top: come at the ball from the inside.

More accomplished golfers can do this each and every time they try, but coming at the ball from the inside may be easier said than done for the beginner golf player. Practice, practice, practice is the key and once you get the hang of it, you can rid yourself of that terrible slice shot by making impact with the ball from a downswing which comes from the inside of the target line ever so slightly.

Train Yourself To Target The Inside

There are drills that you can practice which will help you train yourself so that you can come from the inside on your swing whenever needed. Below is a simple training procedure known as a swing path drill:

1. Take 3 tees and placed them into the turf approximately 3 to 4 inches apart from one another, and in a perfect line at a 45° angle with your target line. If you are a right-handed golfer then the line should be pointing to your left foot. Make sure that you have enough room in between each tee so that you can swing the club through.

2. Now it is time to find your swing path. Take out your 5-iron and initiate a few swings by attempting to hit the top portion of the middle tee. In order to do so, your clubhead must pass between the outside tees in a pathway best described as “in-to-out” in order to avoid contact with them.

By practicing this technique and hitting the middle tee in this fashion on a consistent basis, you are making contact correctly from the inside. If you happen to hit the outside tees then you are still coming over the top and need more practice on your swing.

Fake Scotty Cameron’s? Say it ain’t so!

Posted in Golf News, Scotty Cameron  by Putters 101
September 19th, 2008

Recently I was poking around the ebay guides section and ran across this little jewel about fake Scotty Cameron putters complete with multiple pictures. Sure, it’s a little outdated but it’s still good information and an excellent reminder to all of us to be careful when buying anything that sounds too good to be true! Even on Ebay, if a deal is too good to be true, it probably is. Of course, that being said you can still find many Scotty Cameron Putters at an excellent price. Happy putting!

Tips for Buying the Best Ladies Golf Clubs

Posted in Golf Tips  by AMA Golfer

Where Are All The Ladies Golf Clubs?

If you are a female golfer looking for ladies golf clubs that actually fit you will know that this is not an easy task even though many more women now play golf.

Because all of us, both males and females, are human and therefore different than each other, there will always be a problem when trying to find suitable golf equipment.

Fewer Women then Men need Golf Clubs

Golf clubs are a specialist market and one that is driven by demand and this is where lady golfers miss out. Mainly this is due to a much smaller market for good good ladies golf clubs and the fact that development and manufacturing costs of any high specification item continue to be high.

If you are a female golfer you may just get lucky and find that a standard golf club design for the male market will work for you too, but this does not often happen. Usually it is extremely difficult for a women golfer to find suitable clubs, especially when they are trying to put a whole golf set together.

Women Are Physically Different Than Men

Many different factors come in to play least of all the fact that women are physically different than men and because of this they often have specific needs from a golf clubs that are also different. Some clubs maybe too stiff or even too flexible and the woman golfer is unlikely to have the right swing for a mans club.

Lighter weight clubs may help to increase swing speed for longer shots but then there is a possibility of loosing the control that would be provided by a heavier club. The actual length of the club is also important as women are normally shorter than men and only a shorter ladies club will bring the comfort required for a better fit..

It always pats to test the exact fit and comfort factor of potential golf clubs before making a final choice. For ladies this may mean a lot of research and testing before they get the clubs that they want. For ladies this may mean a lot of research and testing before they get the clubs that they want.

Custom Clubs Are The Best

Many golf equipment companies now make golf clubs just for women, including wedges, woods and irons, that are design with meeting the criteria that lady golfers need. These clubs are often lighter in the hand and will contribute greatly to a better golf game for females and more progress than with standard clubs.

When a woman golfer improves her game her demands for a better club will mean that getting better fitting and more comfortable golf clubs for women becomes even more essential. This requirement may mean that the only solution to getting the perfect clubs is to seek out custom ladies golf clubs to ensure the best fit.

Of course these will not be cheap and you will have to be prepared to pay the cost of perfection. However this maybe a small price to pay as the benefits and additional enjoyment you get as your golf game improves will probably be worth it.

Although there are many more purpose built womens golf clubs on the market these days, it is still relatively difficult for a lady golfer to find what she needs to suit her golf skill and her style of golf.

Never Give Up!

Bad equipment will hold back any lady golfer so it is important to find what you really need as soon as you can and getting the right equipment is essential if you want to progress. To do this you need the right equipment that is going to actually help you and not hold you back.

Golf Putting Tips: Don’t rest your putter on the ground!

Posted in Putting Tips  by Putters 101

If you setup with your putter on the ground, you have to lift it before starting your stroke.  Lifting the club often causes the stroke to pull to the left during impact with the ball.  Instead, just brush the grass at address so that it is already level and does not need to be lifted.  In this manner your club goes only back and not up giving you a smoother and more controlled stroke.
