PING Karsten Anser ReviewThe PING Karsten Anser putter is an affordable, (under $100), putter with a classic look and feel. While it has been updated with an elastomer insert, this insert is actually in the back of the cavity so you still have the traditional steel-face with its unmistakable sound. The insert itself is disguised as the PING logo.

Here’s what PING has to say about it:

“For golfers preferring the performance of a steel face with an insert feel, the Karsten Series meets the criteria. An elastomer insert in the cavity provides enhanced feel while maintaining the solid response of a steel-faced putter. Weight savings from the new cavity shapes were redistributed to the perimeter to increase each putter’s moment-of-inertia for added forgiveness.”

This putter is the answer for any golfer seeking the performance of a steel face with an insert feel. The elastomer insert provides enhanced feel while maintaining the solid response of a steel-face putter. Other benefits include:

  • An alignment aid that squares the face to the target at address and results in a more consistent putting stroke.
  • An elastomer insert in the back of the cavity which enhances feel and reduces vibration.
  • Weight saved by using an insert is distributed to the perimeter to increase MOI for added forgiveness.

Odyssey White Hot Tour #2

Posted in Odyssey Putters, Top Reviews  by Putters 101
June 28th, 2008

Winner of the June 2008 issue of Golf Magazine’s Club Test, this Odyssey putter delivers a fantastic feel combined with outstanding feedback, making this putter consistent and forgiving. The company says it’s due to the two-piece insert which holds an elastomer core with a hard outer surface infused with urethane.

Golf Magazine simply says that the firm insert “asserts itself” and allows a wide are of forgiveness resulting in good directional control.

The best part of all might just be the price. At a list price of only $149, it’s the cheapest of the bunch that was reviewed, beating out competitors that were double the price.

The Ping Anser 2 has been used by many golf professionals over the years, including Tiger Woods before he turned pro. It’s got a classic look to it with the plumber’s neck, and sets up quickly and accurately by using the built-in sight line.  Crafted out of stainless steel with a cast steel head situated slightly behind the shaft, this putter sets up easily at address. The stainless steel face gives a solid feel on impact and it’s perfectly balanced, allowing for better feedback.
